Japan are the 2026 mixed team world champions. At the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku on 11 October they beat the Russian Federation 4-1 in the final to take back the title Georgia won in 2025.
Japan unbeaten through the day
Japan beat hosts Azerbaijan 4-1 in the round of 16, Mongolia 4-1 in the quarter-final and China 3-0 in the semi-final before closing out the final 4-1. Their four points came in the three women's categories and at men's -90 kg; the Russian Federation's only win was BASHAEV over NAKANO Kanta at men's +90 kg.
China fifth, bronze for Georgia and Uzbekistan
Georgia took bronze by beating China and Uzbekistan beat Mongolia 4-2, so China and Mongolia finished fifth.
China had produced the day's biggest upset in the round of 16, beating Brazil 4-3, and then beat Türkiye 4-1 in the quarter-final. In the semi-final against Japan, LIU Lu and Japan's TANAKA Shiho were both disqualified after a long period without sincere attacks; MURAO Sanshiro and ARAI Mao then won to send Japan through 3-0.
How the Russian Federation reached the final
The Russian Federation beat Korea 4-0, France 4-3 and Uzbekistan 4-3. In the semi-final Inal TASOEV, the +100 kg world champion crowned the day before, beat world champion Muzaffarbek TUROBOYEV twice to settle the tie.
The format
Each team fields three women and three men. The opening category is drawn, and if the six contests finish 3-3 a category is drawn again for a golden-score decider.
