The 20th Asian Games opened in Nagoya, Japan on 19 September, with the opening ceremony at Paloma Mizuho Stadium. The Games run until 4 October. Forty-five countries and regions are taking part, Emperor Naruhito attended and declared the Games open, and the ceremony featured dance, music and fireworks.
Hong Kong, China sent a delegation of more than 800 members, including about 580 athletes competing in 38 sports. Basketball player Ivan Yang and wushu athlete Lydia Sham carried the Hong Kong, China flag at the opening ceremony.
To support the Games, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department has set up Asian Games focal sites at designated sports centres in all 18 districts. They opened from 5pm to 8pm on 19 September and then run daily from 8am to 9pm until 4 October, showing live coverage for the public.
In judo, competition takes place from 30 September to 3 October at the Aichi International Arena (IG Arena). The current International Judo Federation entry list shows three men and three women for Hong Kong, China, a total of six. That is a registration list rather than confirmed participation, and the final field depends on the official announcement.
