Japan claimed two gold medals at the inaugural Lausanne Grand Slam, with Yamato Fukuda winning the men's under-60 kg and Kairi Kentoku the under-66 kg.
Fukuda, from Tenri University, and Kentoku stood at the top of their divisions, while Tatsunari Hattori took silver in under-66 kg. In the heavyweight divisions, Tetsuta Hamada finished fifth in under-100 kg and Kenta Nakamura took bronze in over-100 kg.
On the women's side, Suzune Takeuchi placed fifth in under-52 kg, Ayami Takano took bronze in under-57 kg and Kairi Yamaguchi bronze in under-63 kg. Akane Ikeda finished fifth in under-78 kg, while Mitsuki Kondo and Yuina Mori both exited in the first round of under-48 kg. Moeka Kuwagata was eliminated in the third round of under-70 kg, Misuki Sugimura in the first round of under-78 kg and Miki Mukumoto in the second round of over-78 kg.
The Lausanne Grand Slam, held from 28 to 30 August, was the first in the Swiss city and opened Japan's challenge toward the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic cycle.
