The 2026 Japan National High School Judo Championships crowned four individual champions in the men's heavier categories at Wakayama Big Whale on 8 August. Genki Inoue (Hieizan High School) won the under-81 kg category, Kairi Ono (Tokai University Sagami High School) took the under-90 kg title, Yuto Shimaha (Tenri High School) won under-100 kg, and Kiyomasa Matsubayashi (Tokai University Sagami High School) claimed the over-100 kg crown to complete a spring and summer double.
On 9 August, Hieizan High School retained the women's team title, beating Fuji Gakuen High School in the final. The victory gave Hieizan the first "triple crown" in the school's history, following the national high school championships in March and the Kinshuki tournament in July. Fuji Gakuen finished as runner-up, with Soshi Gakuen High School and Saga Commercial High School sharing third place.
In the women's individual events, Iori Tomita (Hiroshima Minami High School) won the under-48 kg title, Momoka Takeda (Saku Chosei High School) took the under-52 kg category and Yusa Kitajima (Toin Gakuen High School) won under-57 kg.
The women's individual competition concluded on 10 August with Nanami Morita (Hieizan High School) winning the under-63 kg title, Yuki Tomoda (Kokushikan High School) taking under-70 kg, Misuzu Katsumata (Fuji Gakuen High School) winning under-78 kg and Yotsuba Sakamoto (Hieizan High School) claiming the over-78 kg crown.
The championships run from 6 to 10 August and are one of the major events in Japan's student judo calendar. Team competition reflects not only individual ability but also each school's depth, development system and competitive culture.
