Judo at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games reached its second day on 1 October, with Japan fielding Ishihara Tatsuki (men's -73 kg), Fujiwara Sotaro (men's -81 kg), Shirakane Mio (women's -57 kg), Tanioka Narumi (women's -63 kg) and Maeda Rin (women's -70 kg). When the preliminaries finished, Fujiwara, Tanioka and Maeda had reached the finals, Ishihara had moved into the bronze-medal contest and Shirakane had fought her way through the repechage. In the medal contests that followed, Fujiwara, Tanioka and Maeda won gold and Ishihara and Shirakane took bronze: three golds and two bronzes for Japan on the day.

  • Women's -52 kg: Fujishiro Kokoro — a bronze medal, beating SARSENOVA Meruyert (Kazakhstan) in the bronze-medal contest.
  • Men's -66 kg: Hattori Shinsei — out in the round of 16, beaten by BOQIEV Sukhrob (Bahrain) by ippon.

Where Japan stands

With day one's two golds (Kondo Hayato, men's -60 kg; Kondo Mitsuki, women's -48 kg) and a bronze for Fujishiro Kokoro (women's -52 kg), Japan has five golds and three bronzes after two days. The individual tournament closes on 2 October with the men's -90 kg, -100 kg and +100 kg and the women's -78 kg and +78 kg; the mixed team event follows on 3 October.
