The Judo Association of Hong Kong, China has released the enrollment information for the Hong Kong Judo Dan Grade Examination 2026, which will be held at UG Kai Tak at 10:00 am on Sunday, 13 September. Applications close on Monday, 31 August.

Applicants must be 16 years old or above and must have been an individual member of the Judo Association of Hong Kong, China for at least one year. Additional minimum seniority requirements apply to each Dan level.

Candidates for First Dan must have held First Kyu for at least one year. Candidates for Second Dan must have held First Dan for at least two years; Third Dan candidates must have held Second Dan for at least three years; and Fourth Dan candidates must have held Third Dan for at least four years.

The examination fee is HK$500. Successful candidates are required to pay a separate certificate registration fee: HK$1,800 for First Dan, HK$2,000 for Second Dan, HK$2,200 for Third Dan and HK$2,400 for Fourth Dan.

The examination content becomes progressively broader at higher Dan levels. First Dan candidates are assessed in ukemi, Nage-no-Kata, nage-waza, katame-waza and competition rules. Second Dan candidates are assessed in ukemi and Nage-no-Kata, Third Dan in Nage-no-Kata and Katame-no-Kata, and Fourth Dan in Nage-no-Kata, Katame-no-Kata and Ju-no-Kata.

The association specifies that both Tori and Uke roles are assessed in the relevant kata examinations. Candidates sitting for Second Dan or above must also use a partner who holds First Dan or above.

If the number of applicants is high, an additional examination date may be arranged. Examination fees are non-refundable once received, except in the case of event cancellation.
