JUDO4LLC, short for Judo for Lifelong Learning Communities, is a European project designed to help judo clubs develop into centres of lifelong learning and community engagement. Co-funded by the Erasmus+ Sport programme of the European Union, the initiative brings together six partner organisations from six European countries.
The project builds on the educational values at the heart of judo, such as respect, discipline, responsibility and self-control, and links them to the skills people need throughout their lives. Its framework connects traditional judo values with the European Key Competences for Lifelong Learning and the LifeComp framework, giving coaches and volunteers practical tools to foster leadership, co-operation, critical thinking and community participation through regular club activity.
JUDO4LLC also includes the development of an interactive online platform, intended to create a European network where clubs, coaches and practitioners can exchange ideas, share good practice and learn from one another. The methodology will be tested by 20 judo clubs across at least six European countries, with around 200 participants taking part.
The International Judo Federation is supporting the project by helping its results reach clubs and federations beyond Europe. As the project moves into its first implementation phase, new educational resources, digital tools and collaborative opportunities are expected in the months ahead.
