Members of the Indian judo team arrived in Glasgow for the 2026 Commonwealth Games only to discover that their checked luggage had been lost by the airline. The missing bags contain competition judogis and training gear, leaving athletes scrambling to prepare with less than two days before the opening session on Thursday 31 July at the Scottish Event Campus.
The Indian Olympic Association has intervened and is working with the airline and the Glasgow 2026 organising committee to resolve the situation. Indian media report that the IOA is attempting to recover the luggage or arrange replacement equipment before competition begins.
This is the second luggage incident to affect an Indian contingent at the Games. The Indian boxing squad experienced a similar problem after travelling from a training camp in Belfast, with several athletes' bags failing to arrive in Glasgow. The IOA has said it will address both cases and raise the matter with the relevant transport and logistics providers.
For judo athletes, a judogi is a personal piece of equipment. Differences in cut, fabric and fit between brands mean that a borrowed uniform may not feel the same in competition, adding an unwelcome variable to an athlete's preparation.
