The IJF Academy Foundation has completed the pilot edition of its Judo for Self-Defence Instructor Programme in Malta. The practical session was held from 2 to 4 July at the Malta Judo Academy in Pembroke, combining judo technique, teaching methodology and practical self-defence application.

The course brought together 26 participants from 15 countries and regions across five continents. Hong Kong, China was among the participating delegations, linking Hong Kong judo to an international education initiative.

According to the IJF, the programme was developed by Dr Slavisa Bradic, Sports Director of the IJF Academy Foundation. Florin Daniel Lascau, Daniela Krukower and Tina Trstenjak delivered the practical component. The work was built around balance, control, movement, distance, discipline and respect, within a structured teaching and assessment framework.

IJF Secretary General Dr Lisa Allan described the programme as part of judo's wider educational mission: practical self-defence skills delivered alongside confidence, discipline, respect and personal development.

All participants passed the final assessment. Feedback from the pilot group will be used to refine future editions, as the IJF Academy Foundation expands its work in self-defence, community education and lifelong learning.
