Hong Kong judo is entering a busy July competition period. According to the local events page of The Judo Association of Hong Kong, China, the Hong Kong Judo Team Championships 2026 will be held on 12 July at Shek Kip Mei Park Sports Centre. The event is listed as a non-ranked competition, with an age requirement of 15 or above, an entry fee of HK$500 and an entry deadline of 1 July.

A team championship has a different meaning from an individual event. It is not only about one judoka’s result, but also about the identity of the dojo, the team and the people standing beside the athlete.

The local team event will be followed by two international youth competitions in Hong Kong. The IJF currently lists the Hong Kong Asian Cadet Cup 2026 for 18 July with 118 athletes from 12 countries and regions. The Hong Kong Junior Asian Cup 2026 is scheduled for 19 July with 132 athletes from 13 countries and regions.

This gives Hong Kong two consecutive weekends of meaningful judo activity. For Hong Kong’s young athletes, a home international event is more than a chance to compete for a placing. It is also a chance to feel the pace, strength and tactical rhythm of athletes from across Asia.

If Hong Kong judo is to build a stronger long-term base, attention cannot be limited to senior-level results. July offers a timely view of both Hong Kong’s domestic judo scene and its youth development pathway.
