In the women’s -52kg category, Japan’s Uta Abe claimed her 12th Grand Slam title in Ulaanbaatar. IJF reporting notes that winning 12 titles from 14 Grand Slam appearances is a rare record in women’s judo.
The IJF also noted that Abe’s two non-winning Grand Slam outings ended in silver, and that defeats have been exceptionally rare across her international career. After her setback at Paris 2024, this return again showed strong mental resilience.
Her sights are now set on the 2026 World Judo Championships in Baku and LA28. For Asian judo, Abe’s comeback and consistency remain one of the most important stories in the women’s lightweight divisions.
